Floor Sanding and Polishing FAQs

Do I need to move all furniture out before floor sanding?

Floors need to be clear so sanding machines can reach all areas. Some sanders can help move light furniture for an extra fee, while others ask that rooms are empty before they start. It is best to confirm expectations during quoting and plan where furniture will be stored during the work.

How long before we can walk on newly polished floors?

Light foot traffic is often allowed after an initial curing period, but full hardness takes longer. Timings depend on the product used and weather conditions. Your floor sander will explain when you can walk on the floors, move furniture back in and place rugs without damaging the finish.

Will sanding remove all scratches and stains?

Sanding can remove many surface marks, but deep damage and some stains may still be visible after refinishing. In those cases board replacement or colour adjustments may be suggested. A site visit lets the sander show what is realistic for your particular floors before you commit to the work.

Can all timber floors be sanded?

Many solid timber floors can be sanded several times over their life, but engineered products have a thinner wear layer and may have limits. A floor sander will check board thickness and previous sanding history, where known, before advising on what can safely be done.
