Older switchboards often lack safety switches, have limited capacity and may use equipment
that no longer meets current standards. Licensed electricians can upgrade your switchboard
so circuits are better protected and the system is ready for modern loads and appliances.

Switchboard Upgrade FAQs
How do I know if my switchboard needs an upgrade?
Signs include ceramic fuses, no safety switches, frequent tripping, hot or noisy equipment or plans
to add large new loads. An electrician can assess the board and explain your options.
Are safety switches mandatory?
Requirements vary by state and age of the installation, but in many cases safety switches are now
required on certain circuits. Electricians will work to current standards in your area.
Will I be without power during the upgrade?
Yes, power is usually turned off while the switchboard is upgraded. Electricians plan the work so
the interruption is as short as practical and let you know how long to expect.
What should I include when posting a switchboard upgrade job?
Provide clear photos of the board with the cover open, advise the age of the home if known and list
any planned additions such as air conditioning, EV charging or large appliances.
